Stimulating love and care for nature: that is the goal of Artis (in full: the Royal Zoological Society Natura Artis Magistra), the oldest zoo in the Netherlands that has been in Amsterdam for many years. In this place nature is imaginatively brought close and the debate is facilitated about how humans value, understand and treat nature.
ARTIS has a wealth of current and historical visual material, including video material of animals, plants, microbes, the planetarium, the park, the buildings, accommodation, events, illustrations, employees, (shop) products and museum objects. The zoo would like to make this rich collection even better accessible and use it for telling stories to the public.
Collaboration: from WoodWing Assets to African Penguin
In order to be able to share its rich collection with the public, ARTIS has asked Qonqord to help implement an image bank. Together we have chosen WoodWing Assets. Qonqord will guide ARTIS in setting up the software and training users.
As part of this project and out of commitment to the philosophy of ARTIS, Qonqord has also decided to adopt a penguin in the zoo. Why did we choose this animal? The African penguin chooses a mate for life. He is sensitive and likes regularity and structure. That appeals to us. In addition, we think it is important that this endangered species is given a helping hand. The African penguin is part of the European breeding program (EEP) that ARTIS coordinates. This means that ARTIS has the task of ensuring that the population of African penguins in European zoos remains healthy. We are happy to contribute to this!
